NAIDOC Week is dedicated to celebrating the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

2020 will be the first year that NAIDOC Week is not held in the first full week of July (this week). As NAIDOC is celebrated through local and national events, organisers announced last month that it will instead take place in November. Ordinarily, events would be well underway across the country so Lotus is taking a moment to reflect on the cause and all that it represents.

But what does this look like?

Over the last few months, what has become clear is that there is a lack of understanding among the wider population of the lived experience of Indigenous Australians. At Lotus, we are choosing to further our own education of Indigenous culture and amplify Indigenous voices and creators. Yesterday, on our Instagram, we shared a list of Indigenous creators and educational resources (copied below) to do just this. While these are not exhaustive lists, they are a great place to start.

Please join us in exploring these resources (and plenty more) in recognition of what would have been NAIDOC Week.
