Mental Health Awareness Month 2021 with Lotus People

It’s the last 2 weeks of Mental Health Awareness Month this 2021, and it’s so important to realize and acknowledge that this movement should not end along with the month of October.

1 in 5 people in Australia experience symptoms of mental illness every year, and we have no doubt that this figure has increased throughout lockdown. With the world changing at a rapid pace, it’s crucial now more than ever to slow down, take a break, and put your wellbeing and peace of mind first.

That said, Lotus People is proud to share that our team has been actively doing our part to mark this month and continue driving awareness to this cause for our fellow Australians experiencing personal mental health challenges.

One Foot Forward: The Walk for Mental Health

We’ve worked closely with the incredible mental health charity, Black Dog Institute to join them on this wonderful initiative where the entire team participated in a steps challenge with a view to walk 1000kms and raise over $1000 for mental health.

As of October 28th, Lotus People has walked 1,134km and raised $1,010 out of our $1000 goal, and cannot thank enough those who have supported us through donations! Trust that you are helping such an important cause and that you’ve made a difference in the lives of people touched by mental illness since proceeds will go to funding life-changing research about treatment and prevention, as well as providing vital support services.

As the Lotus People team are really big on putting mental health first, we have put together a quick video sharing some personal ways on how to keep an eye out for your personal health in your everyday lives, in hopes that this will serve helpful to those we are able to reach through this blog.

LOTUS PEOPLE VIDEO:

We truly hope that you continue to take care of yourselves as we revert back to our normal ways of living, find a way to unwind, and put mental health first before anything else.

Wishing you the best of health from Lotus.

As of 2024, a powerful generational shift is redefining the Australian workforce. For the first time, the workplace is no longer dominated by Baby Boomers or Gen X, but by Millennials and Gen Z. According to the Great Place to Work Insights Report 2024 , these two generations now account for 67% of the workforce in Australia — a demographic transformation that is reshaping major culture across workplaces. With this shift means evolving expectations: how people want to work, what they value in employers, and what they need from leaders. As Baby Boomers retire and Gen X move into more senior leadership roles, Millennials and Gen Z are stepping up — and demanding workplaces that are human-first, values-led and future-focused.

In a market where competition for qualified professionals is fierce, many of our non-profit clients are asking us: “How can we attract and retain great people when we can’t compete on salary and perks?” It’s a valid concern. Industries such as technology, financial services and consulting often have the financial bandwidth to offer high salaries, generous bonus structures and a long list of lifestyle benefits. For mission-driven organisations working with tighter resources, it can feel like a difficult race to run. But a compelling Employee Value Proposition (EVP) isn’t built on budget alone. An EVP is fundamentally about meaning. The reasons people feel proud to work at your organisation. The most effective EVPs we see are not necessarily flashy, but they are clear, consistent and deeply connected to the values and culture of the organisation. When well-crafted and confidently communicated, non-profits can not only compete, but excel, when it comes to attracting and retaining capable, aligned professionals who are motivated by more than just salary.
